Repeat Prescriptions

(Please read in conjunction with the Electronic Prescriptions tab, especially with regards to nominating a pharmacy)

The right hand side of your prescription form can be used to order your medication by ticking the items required.

This should then be forwarded to the surgery by post or by placing it in the letterbox outside the surgery door.

If you do not have a nominated surgery we will be contacting you to nominate one, we will no longer post back any tokens.

You can also make arrangements with your pharmacy to order for you.

Alternatively you may order online via the link at the top of this page. New users are required to complete a simple registration prior to using this service.

Patients on repeat medications are usually required to attend the surgery for regular check-ups.

Medication Reviews

Repeat prescriptions are available only to patients who are stabilised on medication.  Your condition will need to be reviewed from time to time by your doctor. 

Please allow two full working days for prescriptions to be processed and remember to take weekends and bank holidays into account.

Electronic Prescribing Service

You must nominate a pharmacy or dispenser to dispense all your prescriptions.

When you get a prescription, it will be sent electronically to the dispenser you have chosen.

To nominate your pharmacy - you can do so whilst ordering your prescription electronically, simply type the name of the pharmacy in the comments box. You can also go to your usual pharmacy and nominate with them direct.

You can collect your medicines or appliances without having to hand in a paper prescription. This is for repeat prescriptions as well as acute ones that your GP may issue during a consultation

Paper prescriptions will continue to be available in special circumstances, but almost all prescriptions will be processed electronically.

 The main things to remember are:

• No paper prescriptions will be issued

• Nominate a pharmacy

• Once nominated always collect your prescriptions from that pharmacy – no token needed.

Prescriptions Charges and Exemptions

Extensive exemption and remission arrangements protect those likely to have difficulty in paying charges (NHS prescription and dental charges, optical and hospital travel costs).

The NHS prescription charge is a flat-rate amount which successive Governments have thought it reasonable to charge for those who can afford to pay for their medicines. Prescription prepayment certificates (PPCs) offer real savings for people who need extensive medication.

NHS charges

These charges apply in England only. In Northern Ireland, Scotland and Wales prescriptions are free of charge.

• Prescription (per item): £9.65
• 12-month prepayment certificate (PPC): £111.60
• 3-month PPC: £31.25

If you will have to pay for four or more prescription items in three months, or more than 15 items in 12 months, you may find it cheaper to buy a PPC.

How to register to use our online services

Please come to the surgery with :

• photo ID, either a current passport or photo driving licence

We will photocopy your ID and activate your account which you will be able to use immediately.

You will also be asked to complete a System online access registration form.
